Day 5
Today was the day after our 100km Madison, and both Mark and were feeling fresh. We both struggled to get up at 10:00 for breakfast… that’s the first sign the body is tired! But we got up, and went to the track for noon to do an easy ride like we have been for the last 4 days. It took a while today for the legs to feel better… But after 10-20 min things were moving. That was another sign that we didn’t cool down right last night. Actually we didn’t cool down at all… So after our ride, we went back to the hotel, slept some more, and ate some more until it was time to race.
Racing today was pretty uneventful for us. We were trying to recover for tomorrow’s day of racing and but in a good final day’s effort. So today, we didn’t lap the field in any race, we didn’t put on the big gear for our Giro Lanciato(Flying Lap Madison style), we even actually put on a smaller gear for the final Madison. We rode 51 x 15’s or a 91.6” gear. The extra cadence, should take some stress off the legs, to help them go better tomorrow. Well see, of course we’ll do everything we to recover as best we can, but first we have to see the entertainment that we’ve been missing every night. Tango! They’ve been having Tango dancing ever night at the track. And the Organizer of the Race seems like he’s having a good time. Great to see!
Day 6
Well, yesterday’s easier Day paid off! Mark and I felt nice and recovered. Well, better than yesterday at least. And it showed in the race results. We finished 5thIn the Giro Lanciato, 6th in the points race, Mark was 7th in the scratch, and I was 7th in the Miss & out. In the final 100 lap Madison of the 6 Day race, we lapped the field with a few other, and then hung on for dear life in the final 50 laps where the top teams were battling it out for the win. In the end, Franco Marvulli, and Alexander Aesbach won the 6Day, and Bruno Risi, and Jacopo Guarnieri were second. When we watched the Tour de France the following day, the mentioned the 6Day that were racing, and mentioned the great result by Guarniri who is only 21 years old. He rides for Liquigas, and they think he will be a super sprinter in the coming years. I hope to race with him and all the other here in Fiorenzuola next year, at the 2010 6 Giorni Delle Rose.
