Yesterday the three of us met up again for a ride supporting Ilija Petrovski. None of us knew him personally, but it was important to all of us involved with the team to support Ilija and his family in a small way. If you haven’t heard his story he was injured in a cycling accident last year and remains in a coma at Sunnybrook. Naturally the sort of care this level of injury requires is expensive and the ride was put together with the aim of raising money to support his ongoing care. The support was above and beyond what anyone involved imagined, as one of the organizers said off hand as we pulled in, “we are going to get arrested today, we thought 50 people would show up, not 300!”
The ride itself was fast and furious, incredibly so. Long stretches at over 50kph were not uncommon, especially once Man-ton snuck his way to the front. While myself and Evan were content to sit in and catch up with people, the Belarussian Beauty couldn’t help himself and went to the front to eat glass and smash masters souls. It was a beautiful thing to watch, especially sitting in the draft of the 300 strong group! It was by all accounts a very successful day, and we got in a fast training ride to boot. I don’t have any pictures as I feel uncomfortable taking them in the middle of 300 cyclists at freeway speeds. This week we are heading to somewhere in rural Queebeckistan for Nationals, I for one am looking forward to seeing if our resident freight train Anton can lap the field at this race too. All for now. Cheers.
